The House Pelinal
STORY: The story of the House Pelinal begins with the first colonization of Iludun by the human pilgrims. Lord Artamon the First, one of the human leaders at the time, was given control of a small, new town called Adureth and the surrounding lands. The story has it that one day, while walking down a forest path, Artamon saw an adder. Pulling out his rapier, called Aegis-Fang by its dwarven creators, he impaled the reptile and from that day on, the emblem of the House Pelinal was a rapier, with a black adder coiled around the blade. A legend was born that day, and since then, the Pelinals have worked hard to keep that legend alive by training hard, and teaching progeny to do the same. The Pelinals had become one of the first martial families on Iludun. As the years passed, their reputation as fierce fighters grew. Now, generations after Artamon, the House has been obliterated. In a single night, the Lord Marius and Lady Catriona Pelinal were murdered by a bandit raid on the Pelinal estate, several miles south of Adureth. Some of the servants saw the boy, Azran, running into the entry hall where the foul deeds were said to have been committed, but everyone saw the fire that consumed the estate, and assumed that the last Pelinal heir had died in the roaring fire, along with his unfortunate parents. They were wrong.
SYMBOLS: The coat of arms for the House Pelinal is a rapier, looking exactly like Aegis-Fang, stabbing downward on a red field background. Coiled around the blade is a large black cobra, poised to strike. The motto is “Nemo me Impune Lacessit” meaning no-one will punish me with impunity.
